About Us

The Himig Sanghaya Chorale (HSC), which was founded April of 1998, is one of the official choirs of San Pedro, Laguna. It is also a non-profit youth organization that with a mission to foster community development through choral music by providing a venue for learning through workshops, building new connections and friendships through festivals, spearheading wholesome and productive activities for the youth, and setting new choral standards by promoting modern choral music. With a vision to become an established choir known for their versatility and mastery of contemporary music, HSC will continue to live up to its name: "Music at its Highest Honor."

The choir had been once named as the Official Choir of Laguna by the blessing of the former Laguna Governor Joey Lina. With this reputation, the choir never failed to enthrall audiences from various places in Laguna. The choir also has been performing in various public and private cultural or non-cultural events from different parts of the Philippines. It has also participated in several international affairs namely the 2003 Philippine International Choral Festival and the Sri Satya Sai Baba Annual Program that was held in the Asian Institute of Management in Makati. Moreover, the choir has also received various awards from different competitions such as NAMCYA Regionals (National music Competition for Young Artists), which the choir won 2nd prize; Vivere Suites Alabang Christmas Choral Competition in which the choir won 1st prize for three consecutive years; and HSC competed for two categories in its very first international choral stint, the 4
th Vietnam International Choral Competition, namely: Chamber Choirs of Mixed Voices and Folklore -- the group was able to earn itself  Golden-Level 2 diplomas for both categories.
The choir has also organized a number of self-produced concerts that have gathered favorable feedback. One of these concerts is "Himig Kalikasan" an environmental awareness concert-symposium that aims to promote the information regarding the advantages of proper waste disposal. One of the HSC's semi- annual projects is the Beyond Notes -- a choral workshop and festival featuring various choirs from within the province of Laguna and had been facilitated by Prof. Eudenice Palaruan for a few year now.

Currently under the baton of Mary Katherine J. Trangco who is an alumna of the University of the Philippines Diliman College of Music with a degree of Masters of Music, major in Composition, the choir continuously challenges itself by singing various songs from different musical era and becoming involved in the International choral scene, the choir is now aiming to travel and share the Filipino culture and traditions simultaneous with learning different cultures from around the world.
